Making a voiceless phone call
3/20/08The Audeo is a wireless band that goes around the user’s neck. It can pick up and interpret nerve signals for speech. It relays that to a computer, which speaks the words. It essentially reads your mind, and then speaks for you.
This allows voiceless conversations. You could make a phone call by simply thinking the words. No more loud cell phone users on the bus. It could also help vocally disabled people with neurological diseases. It could literally give them back their speech.
The Audeo was demonstrated at a recent Texas Instruments conference. It can only recognize about 150 words and phrases. But a much-improved version is in development.
