Hippos are often portrayed as docile, loveable creatures. But the truth is, hippos are violent. In fact, hippos kill more people than any other animal in Africa.
Tonie and Shirley Joubert found Jessica the Hippo washed up on a riverbank. Jessica was less than a day old. A flood had carried her far away from her mother and pod.
The Jouberts nursed her back to health. Eight years later, Jessica still lives with them. She likes to hang out with wild hippos. But she always returns home.
