Dean Potter is a pioneer in a number of extreme sports. He’s best known as a daring rock climber. He isn’t crazy. But watching this Video of the Day may make you wonder. He puts his life on the line. Literally.

This sport is slacklining. It’s not well known outside of the rock-climbing community. Slackliners tie a nylon rope between two objects. They then walk the line like a tightrope. This is usually done only a few feet off the ground. It’s an exercise in focus and balance.

Some slackliners move the line to incredible heights. This is known as highlining. Potter is one of the top highliners in the world. Here he highlines Lost Arrow Spire in Yosemite. He’s a vertigo-inducing 2,900 feet in the air.

And he has no safety equipment.
