Circuses generally have a few staple acts. There are the clowns, exotic animals and talented acrobats. But what happens when the best performers in the world compete? You get incredible acts like the one in this Video of the Day.

This comes from the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo. It’s one of the most prestigious such events in the world. It features many acts. But the competition is the real drawing point. Acrobats, contortionists and other skilled acts compete against each other.

The 2003 festival featured the Acrobatic Troupe of Shanghai. They performed a Russian Bar routine. The Russian Bar combines balance and aerial gymnastics.

It’s an amazing display of both. The word “amazing” really doesn’t capture what these people do. Had I not seen it, I would have thought it impossible. And it won SECOND place!
