Tornados are among the most frightening forces of nature. The United States is the tornado capital of the world. Nearly 1,000 touch down every year.

That makes the United States the premier destination for storm chasers. This Video of the Day is from a pair of storm chasers.

Joel Taylor and Reed Timmer are fearless. They make up one of the teams on Discovery’s Storm Chasers. They live to experience tornados up close and personal. And you can’t get much closer than this video. Taylor and Timmer are only 50 yards from this violent tornado!

Taylor and Timmer have to scramble to get away. But they never stop filming. It’s an intense ride. I caught myself holding my breath.
