What makes us human? We often think there are traits that define us as uniquely human. Our intelligence is probably our most treasured identifier. But what if that mental superiority were challenged?

This Video of the Day comes from the New Scientist. A recent study pitted chimps against college students in a memory test. A group of numbers was flashed on a screen. Then, white blocks quickly obscured the numbers. Participants had to remember and select the numbers in order.

So, how did it go? Young chimps actually outperformed the college students. It’s the first time chimps have beaten humans in a cognitive task. In some areas, intelligence may not be a uniquely human trait.
