This is a great YouTube video on music. In 1971, Don McLean released one of the most famous folk-rock songs. American Pie was a huge hit. But few people know what the song is about. This Video of the Day sets out to decipher its cryptic lyrics.
McLean himself refuses to explain the extremely popular song. He was once asked what American Pie meant. He replied, “It means I never have to work again.” But this hasn’t stopped fans from interpreting it themselves.
This video is pretty convincing interpretation. It claims the song was inspired by the death of Buddy Holly (“the day the music died”). McLean has hinted at this fact. But it’s also the sweeping tale of American pop-culture at the time. This will give you a new appreciation for song.
