This YouTube video is about an important day in world history. On Oct. 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. Well, actually, he landed somewhere in the Bahamas. And he thought he was on the eastern coast of Asia. And he actually wasn’t the first explorer to land there.
Nonetheless, he was the man who brought Western civilization to these shores. Subsequent voyages by him and others expanded our map of the world. One who followed in his footsteps was Italian cartographer Amerigo Vespucci. He was the first to demonstrate the land was a new continent. So, they named it after him.
OK, enough history. This video comes from the film 1492: Conquest of Paradise. It highlights the incredible score by Greek composer Vangelis. The dialog has been stripped from the clips. But the powerful imagery easily tells the story by itself.
