Argument to Beethoven’s 5th

5/2/09

Sid Caesar was an early day television comic who had several shows. His two earliest were Your Show of Shows and Caesar’s Hour. Other shows followed in the 1960s.

The Caesar Hour ensemble regularly lampooned movies, including miming silent films. This video features Caesar and a regular co-star, Nanette Fabray. They mime an argument to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

I’ll bet this was harder than it looks. It’s a live performance, for which Caesar was famous. He was also well-known for minimal rehearsals. It took talent to stay up with him.

Both Caesar and Fabray are still active. Caesar is 86; Fabray is 88.
