Get the Kleenex ready. This story is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. Just before Elena Desserich turned 6, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Doctors gave her less than a year to live. And they were right.

While battling the cancer, she lost the ability to speak. So, she began writing and drawing love notes for her family. But she didn’t just give them to their intended recipients. What she did instead has touched her family long after her death.

Elena’s parents have launched a charity in her name. The Cure Starts Now Foundation is dedicated to battling pediatric cancer. Her parents have also written a book. All proceeds from book sales go directly to the charity.
